Ideally, demand for natural gas increases every winter in all parts of the world. With the fear of being infected by Covid-19, more families have begun to save up money for natural gas given its increase in price, globally.  Luckily for Turks, the burden of price has been lifted from them with the government taking strides to reduce natural gas price, this coming winter.

The 14th Energy is Future (EIF) world Congress and Expo 2021, which was held in Antalya from the 13th to the 15th of October 2021 had senior public sector present, private sector, and various procurement boards present from Turkey and from around the world. The mandate of this forum was to discuss the market evaluations of energy.

During this expo, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Fatih Donmez assured the Turks not to worry about the supply of natural gas this coming winter as the country has prepared via different sources and there is a guarantee of sufficiency.

His Deputy Minister, Alparslan Bayraktar, on a different occasion, highlighted an increase in demand for natural gas by 24% compared to 2020. Minister Bayraktar indicated that the country needs 600 billion sm3 of gas this year.

The different sources that feed the system are international pipeline, underground natural gas storage, floating storage, and regasification unit facilities. The Turkish government is taking steps to reduce the cost of natural gas so that the residents can afford it this coming winter.
